This book features only 4 different sight words: the, a, is, has. All other words need to be “sounded out” (decoded). This helps ensure no guessing and builds true reading confidence and skills from the start. Perfect for students who need practice or have some experience in sounding out/blending words, this book at Orange Pumpkin Level 1 focuses on short vowel sounds like “a” and “i.” Examples of words your learner may practice are “map,” “sit,” “bat,” and “pig,” enhancing their phonics decoding skills and confidence.

The first version underlines the non-decodable words–the rest of the words need to be “sounded out” (decoded). The second version contains the same text but with a few surprises. None of the non-decodable words are underlined helping kids learn them. Readers may also notice some differences in the images, like changes in colors or backgrounds.
