AFRO-AMERICAN HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY 2020 Annual Conference Syllabus. The conference theme is “From 1619 Virginia to Present Day: Correcting the National Narrative in the Midst of COVID-19.” How much more poignant can we be? The conference will examine the enslaved, formerly enslaved, the enslaver, the so-called “peculiar domestic institution” and the unique and various contexts which has placed African American family history, local and national episodes in the American history narrative. In the context of the world pandemic known as COVID-19, Black Lives Matters, voter suppression, police brutality, institutional divides, jobs and justice, and social injustice, we strive in our embrace of the black genealogical research experience and natural curiosity rooted in our history.
