Meeting God in Scripture: Entering the Old Testament

“Why is the Bible so important to us yet reading it is considered such a chore? Welcome to a spiritually formative and experiential way of meeting God in scripture. The Meeting God in Scripture Series is a highly accessible overview of the Christian Bible, divided into studies of the Old and New Testaments. The intent is to give the big picture through half-page daily readings combined with a weekly group meeting that includes activities and discussion. As a group leader, you’ll guide participants through simple and less analytical (but more creatively effective) ways to read scripture. Entering the Old Testament is an eight-week survey of 40 short readings from Genesis to the latter prophets. In both approach and content, this study is something different. Group members will learn to respond to chosen passages with, “”What is God saying to me?”” The Entering the Old Testament Leader’s Guide provides commentary and articles on the history and texts of the Hebrew scriptures, tools for teaching participants to read scripture prayerfully, devotionally and expectantly, information about group dynamics to help both novice and experienced group leaders optimize the study for every student, a flexible meeting format with outlines and reproducible materials for whichever option you select. Each 45-minute group session includes a gathering worship, review of the week’s responses to the readings, activities and closing prayer.
