Two doctors, one lifetime, and a world of medical history to explore. That was the impetus for the transformative journey that renowned physicians Walter Brott and Jules Bedynek embarked upon, and what inspired them to write “A Medical Pilgrimage.” Within its beautifully illustrated pages lie the origins of modern medicine, as they chronicle their visits to some of the most influential historical medical sites across Greece, Turkey, Western Europe and the United States. It is their utmost hope that readers will be inspired to set out on their own explorations to retrace the footsteps of the medical and philosophical innovators who shaped Western Medicine, and the very world we live in today. In his 23 year career with the U.S. Army, Colonel Brott’s posts included Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency Program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was also Chief Surgical Consultant to the Surgeon General, and first Division Chief and professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the U.S. Military Medical School. Colonel Bedynek served in the U.S. Army for 35 years, including as Chief of Cardiology at Walter Reed, and Chief Medical Consultant to the Surgeon General. He received a Phd in Physiology from Georgetown University, and was an Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Physiology at the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
