A PROGRESSIVE LATIN READER: First and Second Years

[There is a more complete and recent version of this reader (A Beginning and Intermediate Latin Reader with Exercises and Adapted Texts, ISBN: 979-8577940812).] This reader is a collection of Latin texts specifically selected to assist with the learning of Latin at the first and second year levels. The sequencing of the texts matches the introduction of grammatical contents as it is done traditionally. All of the texts come with explanatory notes, although an effort is made not to overwhelm the student with excessive detail or complexity, since the goal is to facilitate fluency in the reading of Latin through engagement of texts of restricted length. To help connect these readings with their cultural context, some texts are also supplemented with historical explanations or images. The book concludes with a collection of grammar reference materials, which the student can consult at all times while translating.
