HOPKINS CLASSICAL COLLECTION On the life and character of Julius Agricola (Latin: De vita et moribus Iulii Agricolae), or more commonly, Agricola is a book by the Roman writer, Tacitus, written c.AD 98. The work recounts the life of his father-in-law Gnaeus Julius Agricola, an eminent Roman general and Governor of Britain from AD 77/78 – 83/84. It also covers the geography and ethnography of ancient Britain. Dialogue on Oratory (Latin: Dialogus de oratoribus) is a short work attributed to Tacitus, in dialogue form, on the art of rhetoric. Its date of composition is unknown, though its dedication to Lucius Fabius Justus places its publication around 102 AD. The beginning of the work is a speech in defence of eloquence and poetry. It then deals with the decadence of oratory, for which the cause is said to be the decline of the education, both in the family and in the school, of the future orator. On the Origin and Situation of the Germans (Latin: De origine et situ Germanorum), or more commonly, Germania is a book written by the Roman historian Publius Cornelius Tacitus around 98 AD. It is a historical and ethnographic work on the Germanic peoples outside the Roman Empire.
