The Eversweet Everbearing Strawberry is a berry made to grow in the south. This strawberry is bred for zones 5-9 and even up to 10, but with its extreme heat tolerance of up to 100 degrees, it is perfect for the hot humid southern areas. The quality of the fruit, with its exceptionally sweet strawberry flavor is not compromised even in the heat. And what a fitting name for a strawberry, that produces its first crop of sweet and flavorful fruits in spring and then keeps producing crops at six week intervals throughout the summer and into fall. This variety is easy to grow, and works well in hanging baskets, containers or in the garden. Their unbelievably sweet flavor is great fresh from the garden or used for jams, jellies and freezing as well. Place plants in a full sun location in a rich sandy soil. They require a well-draining soil with adequate watering, keeping in mind that baskets and containers dry out quicker than if ground planted. If you get blooms the first year the plant is getting established, pinch off the blooms to ensure a large fruit crop the next year. Runners should be removed as well so plants can direct energy into establishing a strong root system. This plant will reach 8-10 inches tall and sends out runners enlarging the plant width. For winter protection, cover plants with straw or leaves after the temperature has fallen to about 20deg F
