We all care about family, country, and ourselves. Yet, a few can be successful as the beneficiaries of chaos arising from conflict, systemic erosion, violence, and bad governance in the country. Still, the country and a large majority of people suffer from such chaos. Therefore, individual and family success, achievement, and pride are closely linked to the success of a country. Moreover, while success of a few individuals cannot assure the success of the country, all can feel the effects and dividends of a country’s success. Therefore, the success of a country is profoundly important for our own success, achievement, and pride.
This prompts a simple but pertinent question–how can one measure success, especially of a country? To put it in other words, what makes a country successful? This book is written to explore an answer to this question. The main schemes investigated in this book arise from the basic idea that a successful nation building reproduces the success of a country. In this light, this book explicates nation building on four broad premises: equal citizens, a robust market, universal social protection, and the rule of law.
