Dogfight! WW2 Air Combat Game, 1939-1940is an strategy air combat card game, using Minden’s Battle over Britain game system. Dogfight! is a 100-page full-color book containing the rules, data cards, and game components for a wargame that simulates air combat between fighter aircraft of various nationalities during the initial years of World War II. The game emphasizes high playabiity and historicity, deisnged for two players but easily played solitaire with the solo rules included. You will play individual games (dogfights) between Allied and Axis warplanes, which are authentically rated in a variety of categories (speed, agility, armament, performance, durability) that allows players to easily assess the strengths and weaknesses of individual planes. Two dozen warplanes from Great Britain, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, and Poland are included. Components must be scanned and printed prior to play. You will need to supply a standard deck of 52-playing cards, and a single six-sided die. Various scenarios, campaign games, solitaire rules, and design-your-own scenario instructions are included. Dogfight! is a two-player game that is quick to play, based on authentic ratings but also involves much strategy. At the start of each game, players are dealt a hand of cards. (The number of cards will depend on the plane’s speed rating.) Then, players will sometimes alternatively and sometimes simultaneously play a single card from their hand. This will establish the relative positions of the planes, and determine if one of them has “Advantage” and can fire its guns at the enemy. The better your relative position and the higher your plane’s fire rating, the more likely you can damage or shoot down the enemy. A disadvantaged plane is essentially being tailed, and may attempt to “break off” and turn the tables on the other plane. The better your aircraft’s performance rating in comparison with the enemy’s, the more easily you can do this. The game ends when one plane has been shot down, or disengages (flies away), or the deck of cards runs out, whichever comes first. Special rules covering bombers are also included. Twenty-four different aircraft are represented in the game from six nations, each with its own data card, and counters. GREAT BRITAIN: Supermarine Spitfire I, Hawker Hurricane I, Fairey Battle, Westland Lysander, Gloster Gladiator, Boulton Paul Defiant, Bristol Blenhein IV. GERMANY: Messerschmitt Me-109E, Messerschmitt Me-110C, Junkers Ju-87D, Henschel Hs-123, HeinkelHe-111H. FRANCE: Morane-Saulnier MS-406, Bloch MB-152, Dewoitine D-520, Potez-631, Liore-et-Olivier 451.
