dyslexia workbook – CVC and Simple Spelling Rules: Orton-Gillingham approach to structured literacy (Dyslexia Workbooks)

This is the third of a series of workbooks that teaches the Orton-Gillingham method to structured literacy backed up by the science of reading. The workbooks go along with free tutoring videos on You Tube. An adult will need to read the instructions to the student. Inside you will practice letters that are commonly turned backwards. You will also practice vowel sounds and writing, reading, and spelling CVC words. A CVC word means a word that contains a (Consonant Vowel Consonant). You will practice short sentences and reading decodable stories. You will learn how to memorize irregular sight words. You will be introduced to some beginner spelling rules. Z-Floss Rule, Cry Baby, Kiss the Cat Rule, Milk Truck Rule, and Catch Lunch Rule. These rules will help the student become a better speller. The student will be introduced to Orthographic Mapping. Mapping words is the best way to implant them into the memory because it involves multiple senses. You can find your orthographic mapping worksheets for beginners towards the back of the workbook. There are explanation sheets on how it works then a blank sheet for the student to map words themselves. A more advanced Orthographic worksheet is also at the end of the book for when the child starts into longer words. You will find games in the workbook to make practicing fun for the child. Some of the games have blank versions so that you can make your own game to practice more. If you put a plastic sheet over the page and use a dry erase marker you can use that page over and over again to get as much practice as you like.
