The jaws and handles have poly-vinyl protective pads. Point-of-pressure always remains near jaw tips throughout the entire range of openings, to hold where needed. The Jaws are steel and nickel plated to prevent rusting. The spring is heavy-duty tempered steel for maximum strength. Maximum opening capacity is 3 inches. The maximum reach is 3 inches.
