Christoph Ernst Luthardt (1823-1902) was one of the premier orthodox Lutheran thinkers in nineteenth century Europe. His writing broadly impacted the church, being often-cited by both Lutheran and Reformed theologians. He produced works of exegesis, dogmatic theology, and apologetics. Among Luthart’s many popular works, he is perhaps best known by his four published volumes of apologetic lectures, covering nearly every significant theme of Christian thought with a rigorous exposition and defense. This present volume consists in lectures delivered on the chief Christian convictions regarding sin, and salvation as found in Jesus Christ. In these talks, Luthardt offers criticisms of unbelieving philosophies while continually edifying the reader through his magnification of the Gospel.
