The Math 4 Life Mathematics Performance Tasks for Grade 6 Teacher’s Guide provides teachers with sample responses and scoring rubrics to guide their use of the Math 4 Life Mathematics Performance Tasks for Grade 6 student workbook. A rubric is provided for each part of the 20 mathematics performance tasks found in the student workbook. The rubrics categorize student performance into four levels (Beginning, Developing, Proficient, and Highly Proficient) to align with the Jamaican Ministry of Education’s reporting levels in the Primary Exit Profile.
This teacher’s guide can be used by teachers and parents. It contains tips on how to engage students in discussions to deepen their thinking, notes about common misconceptions students may make when solving the task, and suggestions of questions to ask and activities to complete to uncover student thinking. The Math 4 Life series provides students aged 6 – 12 with problems set in a wide variety of real-world contexts. They have to use their critical thinking skills and mathematics knowledge to make sense of the problems and communicate their solutions using diagrams, words, and mathematical symbols.
