McGuffey’s Eclectic Primer: Easy Reader Edition: Book 1

Living Lessons in Reading is a Charlotte Mason inspired reading curriculum that utilizes a variety of classic resources, combined with Charlotte Mason’s ideas, to aid homeschool parents on the road to teaching their children to read! This easy reader is Book 1 in a series that covers the content within the revised edition of the McGuffey Eclectic Primer. Book 1 covers lessons 1-5 within the original Revised McGuffey’s Eclectic Primer. These easy readers are broken up into smaller bite-sized portions for young learners, coupled with colorful illustrations, to help them decode words as well as learn to read by sight, all while keeping to the original content within this sweet classic reader loved by many for generations. In the beginning of each book you will find a list of letter sounds and words covered within the reader, as well as short checklists for you to follow when teaching a new letter sound or word to your child. Focus on one lesson at a time, and do not spend more than 10-15 minutes per lesson. There are a few supplies you will need to collect in order to follow along with your lesson checklists. Index cards to make your letter and word flashcards, a moveable alphabet, a sand or salt tray, and a personal dry erase board or chalkboard. Simple tools such as these help to provide a well-rounded experience of learning, which will further aid in retention.
