Not Bad for an Old Lady: American Discovery Trail from Omaha to Pacific Ocean

Old ladies can’t walk all the way across America into their 80s, can they? Yes, they can. Mary did. It’s a long way across the United States, and it took a few years for Mary to complete this walk as a long section hiker. She started this trek in 2015 when she was 74. Her book, Aren’t You Afraid?, took her as far as Omaha, Nebraska. Before she got that far, she had already started on the Western half of the USA. Along the way, many adventures, much trail magic, faithful friends, even a fall, a trip to an emergency room, being injured, and the contemplation of quitting were part of the journey. No trail is complete until the last step. Yet she persisted, and in 2023 at the age of 82, Mary finished the American Discovery Trail at Limantour Beach, Point Reyes National Seashore. Not Bad for an Old Lady is the third book chronicling Mary’s hiking career that began with the Triple Crown of hiking the National Scenic Trails. Add in two long trails in Europe, and that is a lot of miles for an old lady. Come along with Mary as she contemplates the trail, history, her faith, and her future as she hikes the western half of the USA.
