Once Upon A Time provides scientific information in a manner that is simple enough that even a young child can enjoy and understand. The story is told through the adventures of three young girls who live on a tree farm in Oregon. They learn from their kindly neighbor, a scientist, that carbon dioxide (CO2) is the miracle molecule that is necessary for life on Earth to exist and that increasing CO2 is helping plants to grow faster and bigger. CO2 Coalition Director Gordon Fulks received his BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Physics from the University of Chicago. He worked for the Laboratory for Astrophysics and Space Research at the Enrico Fermi Institute of the University of Chicago Laboratory for Astrophysics, as well as Mission Research Corporation, where he studied the solar modulation of galactic cosmic rays, using a large charged-particle spectrometer flown in the Arctic. He wrote Once Upon a Time: A true story about the miracle molecule – carbon dioxide for the CO2 Coalition’s CO2 Learning Center to shed light on the often-misunderstood attributes of carbon dioxide, which is indeed a miracle molecule and necessary for life on Earth. Dr. Fulks has authored five children’s books, all providing scientific information that is simple enough for even a young child to enjoy and understand.
