On a cold and windy day in 1903 two bicycle mechanic brothers flipped a coin to see who would fly what was thought impossible, a heavier than air machine. Wilbur won and crashed after 3 seconds. Orville flew next for 12 seconds and 120 feet. They made three successful flights that day the longest being 852 feet and 58 seconds long. That was the dawn of the Aviation/space-age and Mankind has just kept on flying.
