This is a fun, interactive kit that will introduce students, children and adults to the concepts of absorbency, polymer, gel and osmosis. Kids will be amazed when they see the Super Water Absorber (sodium polyacrylate) soak up more than 500 times its weight in water and turn into gel! This sodium polyacrylate powder, also referred to as the diaper powder, is used in baby’s super absorbent diapers and other types of absorbent under garments. The kit includes a 35 gram bag of poly sodium acrylate (or sodium polyacrylate), a spoon and a detailed guide for 4 experiments with explanations of the chemistry observed. The material in the kit is non-toxic when used as directed. Other items needed for the experiments (but not included with the kit) are cups, water, paper towels, salt and old lids or saucers. Teachers will find this a great classroom demonstration kit as this 35 gram bag of powder will allow for each of the four experiments in the guide to be performed. Also available is refill sodium polyacrylate. This chemical powder comes in many different grinds. This is not the grind that makes instant snow. Ages 8 and up with adult supervision.
