Tanisha and Tamika’s Toolbox: Linear Measurement Systems

Tanisha and Tamika’s Toolbox is a new second grade measurement unit in the Contexts for Learning Mathematics series. The mathematical focus of the unit is the development of linear measurement systems, including the relationship between inches, feet, and yards and between centimeters and meters. The unit also promotes the development of the open number line model. Tanisha and Tamika’s Toolbox is designed to promote mathematical inquiry and to encourage young children to become excited about being a mathematician. A read-aloud for the development of the realistic contexts used for the inquiries is included in the Appendix.
