The Poet Warriors Project: Compilation of Poems

This book was written and compiled by ten very insightful and highly motivated students from the Westside Neighborhood School community. It was amazing to see the growth that occurred within their writing during the five days of this rigorous project. Students were asked to dive deep into their emotions, in order to develop poems that would help teach and express who they are to the world. They came to work everyday and put forth the best effort possible to bring this project to fruition by exploring aspects of their identity, community, family, and sense of place within the world. The road was not easy during this process, but these students accepted the challenge presented and emerge victorious from the ocean of drafts and rewrites that they encountered. Welcome to the Poet Warriors Project. I could not be more proud of these students for exploring an aspect of literature that I love more than anything else. Words cannot express the amount of joy they have brought me and I hope the same feelings leaps from these pages and find comfort within your heart.
