This collection of devotions, written originally in Greek and Latin, were composed by Bishop Andrewes for use in his own private prayers. The manuscript was translated and published after his death, and has been a treasured classic of devotion among High Church Anglicans for centuries. It was reprinted as part of the Tracts for the Times. This edition is a translation of Alexander Whyte, that is based largely on that done by J.H. Newman, but with additional conformity to the language of the Authorized Version of the Bible, when appropriate. It also has a lay-out more conducive to prayer.
