Roger Ebert: “Like all great stories for children, The Secret Garden contains powerful truths just beneath the surface. There is always a level at which the story is telling children about more than just events; it is telling them about the nature of life.” The Secret Garden tells a story of Mary Lennox, a spoiled and selfish young girl who lives with her parents in India. She is looked after by servants until everyone in the household is wiped out by a cholera epidemic leaving only Mary alive. Following the death of her parents, she ends up living with her uncle in Yorkshire, England in a sprawling, old estate consisting of more than hundred rooms, most of which are locked. Eager to look for adventures outside, Mary discovers a secret garden, locked up since the death of her uncle’s wife. After some time, she gains access to the garden and so starts a wonderful adventure which drastically changes and impacts the lives of several people. The Secret Garden is a truly touching story showing an incredible transformation of its main characters thanks to a wonderful power of nature.
