Theology Together Series: Who am I?

Theology Together is a different way to experience and do youth ministry. It seeks to educate youth workers in tandem with the teenagers with whom they minister while changing the climate of congregational youth ministry as they together introduce theological dialogue, vocational discernment, and reflective action into the fabric and flow of youth ministry in the local church. By creating an environment in which youth are engaged in theological discussion and reflective action with their youth leaders, not only are youth expanded in their theological knowledge and conceptions, but youth leaders are simultaneously trained in the art of engaging young people in theological dialogue. An added benefit is that youth and adults are prepared to return to the congregational context together to further expand the theological repertoire and engagement of the entire youth ministry. This curriculum explores “Who am I?” – a question that appears in many conversations youth have, but also appears in the ways youth deem themselves a success or a failure. “Who am I?” is a question that sits in the center of daily conflict. It informs how youth view themselves and their identity. This series will engage youth in exploring this question and create space for theological reflection on who youth are in Christ and how a strengthened identity in Christ leads to faith-filled living. Youth will explore how others around them view their identity to help them develop ways they may see themselves parallel to how Christ sees them. Youth will be challenged to explore themes of identity outside of just what they do, but also who they are because of Christ. This is a 4-week curriculum that has an accompanying 4-week Who am I? Journal for participants.
