2024 marks a hundred years since the death of one of the greatest flash fiction writers of all time, Franz Kafka, who arguably mastered the form before it had even come into being. In partnership with the Bodleian Libraries’ Kafka: Making of an Icon exhibition at the University of Oxford, the 2024 Oxford Flash Fiction prize marks this centenary and celebrates Kafka’s astonishing literary achievements and vibrant creativity. In honour of the longest completed work of fiction we have from Kafka’s pen – ‘The Metamorphosis’ – the stories collected in this volume explore the theme of transformations. Please note that this book contains mature content which may be unsuitable to younger readers and contains content warnings when appropriate.
