John James Audubon’s Watercolors:selected Works from the New-York Historical Society Edition of Audubon’s Watercolors. In 1863, Lucy Audubon, sold her entire collection of original Audubon watercolors to the New-York Historical Society. This collection is definitive in that Audubon never sold or disbursed any of these paintings that were used or intended to be used for his famous work, “The Birds of America”.
