Vocabulary in Diagrams adopts an almost at-a-glance, practical technique in highlighting the slight differences between synonyms or words of the same semantic area, so that the desirable linguistic precision can be achieved. Vocabulary in Diagrams is the first of a series of books to be published following the same technique but covering different topics and it has been the result of a ten-year research project into the difficulties encountered while learning a foreign language. A major outcome of this research is that the learners usually find it difficult to single out the appropriate word from a host of synonyms. Conventional dictionaries have been proved to be quite time-consuming and therefore impractical.
