The weSIGN: ASL & Deaf Perspectives series consists of four books which includes e-book access for short video clips of key vocabulary and examples of target grammar skills. The series provides four semesters of ASL study in line with national standards for American Sign Language learning (ASLTA) and world language learning (ACTFL). They are intended for students taking a second language to meet degree requirements, as well as for students who wish to study ASL for career purposes. Principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and a student-centered approach to learning are reflected throughout this series. It provides students with vocabulary lists, grammar and cultural knowledge information along with opportunities for student practice, self-assessment and reflection. The weSIGN series successfully utilizes new e-book technology so students can view short videos of key vocabulary and examples of target grammar skills within the e-book text. Unique access key will be provided inside front cover of the book (requires publisher’s free app download). Most importantly, this series is written by ASL language instructors (both Deaf and non-deaf) and is the culmination of a coordinated effort among these instructors and ASL students. Instructors and students will find that this series is interactive, engaging and promotes a good balance between information on ASL language skills, current Deaf perspectives, and cultural knowledge.
