White Girl Homework: Advocacy Education

“White Girl Homework” is for people who want to learn more about our Nation’s collective history using creative ways to explore the cause and effects of racism and systemic racism. Participants using this self-guided workbook will: 1. Gain historical knowledge to seek better relationships with other races 2. Explore objective perspectives forging friendships across color lines 3. Utilize unique creative processes (journal, draw) to express emotions Using this workbook, participants will experience a personal journey of empowerment and encouragement along with the opportunity to increase their knowledge, expand their perspective, and strengthen their relationships with others by exercising their empathy and creativity muscles. This workbook has been developed as a tool and creative writing outlet for other people on the journey to learn more about racism and systemic racism with curated content from “Home Work A Collection of Poems Sparked by One White Woman’s Journey on the Matter of Race.” “Home Work A Collection of Poems Sparked by One White Woman’s Journey on the Matter of Race” is the product of lessons and assignments while a participant in Dr. Lynne Maureen Hurdle’s course On The Matter Of Race: White People Committed to Beginning the Journey Together, Level 1, September 2020 through February 2021. Each chapter contains an original poem with a history lesson along with space for reflection and inner work in blank and lined pages for notes, journaling, and other creative artwork of the user.
