Card 8 – Identify the contraction formed by two given words. Card 9 – Match school and play words to descriptions. Card 10 – Match community and transportation words to descriptions. Card 11 – Match health and body part words to descriptions. Card 12 – Complete sentences about dinosaurs and space with the missing word. Vocabulary development is an important part of helping children become fluent readers. The ability to readily recognize words has a strong correlation to the ability to comprehend written materials. Conversely, children who struggle with word recognition while reading usually struggle with comprehension.
