86 high interest, sequential, progressive, decodable books. Each 8-page book contains: word list, word work practice, phonics sounds practice, a short story, and comprehension questions. This series of eighty-six small books contains all the words listed on the Grade 1 and Grade 2 National Reading Vocabulary Lists developed by TampaReads – ReadingKey.com/TampaReads.com. I designed this series because I couldn’t find a set of truly decodable readers. Other options were either word family practice or decodable words used in a whole language format. This book is a continuation of my first-grade book, 60 Decodable Books for Beginning Readers, which focused on letter sounds and combinations, corresponding to How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. While this book can be used independently, the first-grade book is also available on Amazon as both a Parent’s and Teacher’s edition. The only difference between the two is the book formatting. The teacher’s edition is Sixty Decodable Books For Beginning Readers. 80+ Decodable Books for Intermediate Readers does not require a Parent/Teacher Edition. The format is the same for both groups. This book has eighty-six short stories uses all the words on the Second-grade vocabulary list for TampaReads.com and is listed on Amazon and Teachers Pay Teachers. It’s essential to cut the book into individual stories to reduce the child’s feeling of being overwhelmed with the material, particularly if they’re struggling with reading concepts. Providing them with their own copy of each book gives them a sense of ownership. They can practice and color these small books, and with practice, their collection of books that they can read independently increases, until they have at least 86 books they can read! This book focuses on the letter sound rules, starting with short a words, followed by short i, short o, and so on, then long a words, etc. The 86 books cover all the short vowel sound words, then the long vowel sound words, and then the special rule words, such as qu, c/s/, contractions, etc. Each book includes Spelling Rule Practice, Word Work, a Word List, a short story using those words, with comprehension questions. Each story is short, uses the focus skill and word work, and is high-interest, sequential, and is not overwhelming. The stories usually only have one picture (the same picture on each page). This encourages the student to focus on comprehension and not picture clues. The books are deliberately short and simple. After the sixtieth book, the stories get longer and the structure more complex. This is intentional. beginning readers, decodable books, phonics-based books, spelling rules, learning to read, intermediate reading, short stories, teaching, special education, second language learners. sequinial, progressive, high-interest
