You can’t turn the corner until you get to the corner! That was my dad’s wisdom when I was growing up, and it still suits most situations today, including organizational excellence. Similarly, you cannot get to excellence if you fail to perform! The purpose and intent of this book is to introduce a conceptual framework for education and training of Performance Excellence. It is a foundation for identification and execution of a unique combination of theories, practices, tools, and techniques for producing sustainable organizational results. There are three distinct characteristics of this newly established Model. First, it is simple. Application of knowledge can be implemented immediately. Secondly, it is adaptable, and can be applied in any industry. Thirdly, it is flexible, and any aspect of The Model that is implemented will improve the organization. The Model is steeped in leadership and continuous quality improvement principles, and is only limited by one’s lack of innovation or creativity. A Systems Thinking Model for Improving the Education and Training of Performance Excellence is derived from many years of studying, teaching, and supervising over two thousand leaders worldwide. This framework is a unique approach to help leaders increase and apply their knowledge in practical situations. Too often, executives, business owners, managers, and others have an idea about how something should work (approach), but no real understanding of how to make it work (deploy), so, their efforts yield little to no sustainable outcomes (results). The Model has been used in a variety of settings for persons at all levels of their organization (i.e., executive, senior manager, frontline, etc.). It has also been successfully deployed by individuals from various disciplines (e.g., engineering, healthcare, education, transportation, human resources, etc.), and in various settings (e.g., government, non-profit, business, etc.). Ninety-four percent (94%) of individuals trained in The Model have been promoted, gotten a raise, landed a new, higher paying job, and/or started their own organizations. Seventy-eight percent (78%) of them are still using some facet of The Model to propel their careers. It is a simple guide to understanding what learners need to know and do to attain organizational and personal accomplishment. At every turn, the implementation of The Model has met with immediate and lasting success for individuals and organizations.
