The Winchester Black History and Heritage Committee is pleased to present this new book celebrating the African American history of Clark County and the many families who have called this area home since the area was settled in the 1780s. The African American Pictorial History of Clark County, Kentucky includes hundreds of historic photographs depicting how life in Winchester and Clark County has changed through the years. These photographs, many never-before-published, are from various local archives as well as images from family collections, handed down from generation to generation, capturing our African American heritage. The images in this book cover all walks of life, including business, churches, downtown Winchester, families, local history, military, organizations, schools, athletics, and more. The book features some of the county’s more prominent black businesses, churches, organizations and people.
