Anne’s House of Dreams (1917), by Lucy Maud Montgomery, is a classic romance novel about the continuing adventures of Anne Shirley, the beloved protagonist from the author’s previous novel, Anne of Green Gables. In Anne’s House of Dreams, Anne and her beloved Gilbert Blythe, now married, move to a charming cottage by the sea. Despite their financial struggles, the couple’s love and optimism remain undeterred. As Anne and Gilbert settle into their new life, they make new friends, explore their new home, and contend with the trials and tribulations of married life. On their journey, they face obstacles and find joy in the small moments, all while learning the true meaning of love, family, and home. Lucy Maud Montgomery (1874-1942) was a Canadian author best known for her children’s novel Anne of Green Gables. Montgomery wrote over 20 novels, 500 short stories, 500 poems and numerous essays. She was born in Clifton, Prince Edward Island, and was an avid reader, writing her first poem at the age of 10. Montgomery attended Prince of Wales College, where she studied literature, and later taught school in various places before returning to Prince Edward Island to settle down. She wrote her first novel, Anne of Green Gables in 1908, and it soon became a bestseller. Montgomery wrote several sequels to the novel, as well as other books set in Prince Edward Island. Montgomery was an advocate for women’s rights and education and was active in the temperance movement, which sought to end the sale of alcohol. Her writing was influenced by her Christian faith, as well as her love for the landscape of Prince Edward Island. Montgomery’s works remain popular today, and her life has been the subject of numerous biographies and films. She was inducted into the Canadian Literary Hall of Fame in 1981, and her home in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, is now a National Historic Site.
