Apprenticeship of Warren Buffett: The Inside Story of Warren Buffett and the Dodge Family Partnerships

Much has been written about the career and investment prowess of Warren Buffett. Our story explores the inside story of Warren Buffett’s first clients from outside his family circle – Namely, Homer Dodge, along with his wife, Margaret, his daughter, Alice, and his son Norton. Homer had been invested with Benjamin Graham, the dean of Wall Street in the 1940s and into the 1950s. When Ben retired in the early 1950s, he recommended to Homer that a young man he had hired not long ago, Warren Buffett, should take care of his money. Homer made the long drive from Vermont to Nebraska, met Warren Buffett and recognized his potential. There was faith from the start, and that faith which began with mutual respect, helped to define the apprenticeship of Warren Buffett and blossomed into a lifelong friendship.
