Migo and Stef could always count on each other, two middle school friends living in a big city. Enthusiastic and eager Migo is privileged in many ways but lacks the love from their absent parents. Their best friend Stef, reserved and reflective lives a life filled with love but anticipates their parent’s divorce. With their family lives turning upside-down, now more than ever they longed for all the traditions, friendships, and chocolate chip pudding at Camp Winnipeg. Migo and Stef were best friends but never imagined one question, and three little words might change their friendship forever. Spending the summer in Cabin H and among the New Hampshire pine trees in camp’s safety, love, and predictability was magical- until the summer it wasn’t. Their story is a feel-good coming-of-age tale of two adolescents and their journey to navigate family, friendships, love, and loss. The author has uniquely omitted all personal pronounces, genders, and races to allow each reader to see themselves and their own experiences within the story. This literary style promotes greater engagement, broader character representation, and challenges stereotypes while opening the door to self and social reflection for each reader.
