Basic concepts of DNA fingerprinting are featured in this lab by comparing crime scene DNA with suspect DNAs. Fingerprint patterns are separated by agarose gel electrophoresis and the students determine who may have done-it. Kit includes: instructions and Ready-to-Load dye samples for 24 gels. All you need: electrophoresis apparatus, power supply, automatic micropipet and tips, balance, microwave or hot plate, visualization system. EDVO-Kit 109-C contains pre-digested DNA samples ready for electrophoresis sufficient for twenty-four (24) agarose gels with the use of an automatic micropipet. A: DNA sample from crime scene cut with Enzyme 1, B: DNA sample from crime scene cut with Enzyme 2, C: DNA sample from Suspect 1 cut with Enzyme 1, D: DNA sample from Suspect 1 cut with Enzyme 2, E: DNA sample from Suspect 2 cut with Enzyme 1, F: DNA sample from Suspect 2 cut with Enzyme 2, Practice Gel Loading Solution, 100ml plastic graduated cylinder (packaging). Experiment components include enough sample for 24 gels if you are using an automatic micropipet for sample delivery. Use of transfer pipets will yield fewer gels. Reagent quantities are based upon the use of Horizontal gel electrophoresis apparatus, Model M12 and sample volumes aliquoted at 40 l each.
