Fruits and Vegetables: Thematic Unit

This unit is filled with reproducible educational activities for primary grades or for home school settings! A basket of fruit serves as a cover for a writing book. Simply staple it to any kind of paper and cut out. For more writing fun, give them apple-shaped stationery. Have the students choose from among six paper bag puppets; a pineapple, a banana, an apple, a carrot, a pear, or broccoli for a fantastic opportunity to increase oral language skills. This unit contains not one, but two reproducible mini-books that deal with counting, colors and the names of fruit. There are tons of picture flash cards to increase student vocabulary and for use in a variety of reading games. An ABC-patterned (red, green, yellow) apple numberline is a great way to teach counting skills (1-12, plus counting by 2, 5, 10) and a cut-and-paste fruit stand will provide a fun shopping experience! There are art projects galore, including a spinning apple mobile, a grocer with movable arms and legs, and a color-by-number basket of apples.
