MAJESTIC AND MJ: IS THAT YOUR MOTHER? MJ and his mother do not look the same, even though they are related. MJ’s mother teaches him to be confident in his uniqueness with daily positive affirmations in the mirror. When MJ started his new school, the students questioned him about his mother. MJ confidently and kindly educates them about diverse families. With the explanation, some of the students accepted him and others did not. Emotional-Social-Multicultural Strategies 1.) Learn how to build self-esteem with positive affirmations. 2.) Gain an understanding of the diverse world. And that different families are multiethnic. 3.) Improve communication skills to effectively educate with facts and kindness. 4.) Be consumed with colorful and realistic illustrations that will make you wonder. Topic of Discussion: Can a black woman be a mother to a biracial child without her motherhood being in question? “Is That Your Mother?” begs the question, how is that possible? Let’s dispel the myth that black women are nothing more than the nanny or babysitter to the white, Asian, or Hispanic child. MJ, is indeed biracial. The author hopes that your little one sees a touch of MJ in themselves. Even if your little one is not biracial or multiracial, they will still enjoy and learn from each character in the book.
