Math Adventures with ORMC, Level 2 is a year-long enrichment math course for children in grades four to six. ORMC, short for UCLA Olga Radko Endowed Math Circle, is a free Sunday math school for gifted children run by UCLA Department of Mathematics. The book is based on the lessons taught at ORMC. The book is a part of the series, Math Adventures with ORMC. It can be studied independently of other books in the series. The perspective of the book is that of an active modern day US university professor. The main goal of the book, as well as of the Math Adventures with ORMC series as a whole, is to prepare students for taking, and genuinely enjoying, math and computer science classes in a top-tier 21st century US university. Most often, a book focuses on one area of mathematics, like algebra, geometry, number theory, etc. This book introduces students to ciphers, functions, solids, their projections and cross-sections, to algebra of logic and microchip design, binary numbers and the ASCII code, combinatorics, clock arithmetic, number theory, coordinates on the globe, and geometry of time. The topics are not chosen at random. Together, they form a journey that begins with simple ciphers and ends up with public key cryptography, the engine powering the modern day ecommerce.
