Measurement Uncertainty: A Reintroduction

The book aims to provide a glimpse into the world of uncertainty evaluation through engaging examples. The examples are intended to stimulate those willing to learn more about uncertainties. The book tells stories about why the estimated mass of Pluto keeps getting smaller and smaller, how to weigh a dinosaur, or how to count unseen WW2 German tanks. There are also stories that challenge the Olympic medal assignments, dispute the authenticity of some paintings attributed to Vermeer, and reveal the age of moon rocks. Most of these examples can be read independently of one another and all serve to review and refresh concepts and modern techniques that are employed in the art of evaluating measurement uncertainty.
