Models are powerful tools for teaching Science as they provide useful simplifications of structures and processes, helping make the unseen visible and the complex simple! Using the ready-to-use materials provided, students first assemble a model to represent the Fetal Pig Dissection as an aid to develop questions and explanations. They will then generate data and observations that can be used to make predications and communicate their findings to others. First, your students will make their model of a fetal pig out of the colorful parts provided. Through the process, they build the pig and then add the organs to the model. The model can be used look at the anatomy of the major body systems and covers the nervous system (brain & spinal cord), circulatory system (heart and major blood vessels), respiratory system (lungs and trachea), digestive system (mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, spiral colon, rectum, pancreas, liver and gallbladder), excretory system (kidneys and bladder) and male & female reproductive systems. Includes enough materials for an individual student to work alone or 2 students to work cooperatively to assemble a paper model. Also includes a comprehensive background information providing opportunities for students to Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend and Evaluate their understanding of the concept. Satisfies NGSS Standards which encourage students to develop & use models to represent structures, systems & processes. Perfect for use at home, in the classroom or lab.
