For sample pages, visit www.PianoRev.com! The PIANO Revolution method is like no other published method for learning to play the piano, as it is based on the principles of Instructional Design. Each Lesson Book introduces one concept at a time and allows the student to become somewhat proficient before introducing another concept. In Level 1, the student plays treble and bass clefs separately before the introduction of the grand staff for hands playing together. Proper notes, rests, and timing appear in Level 2. More advanced sight-reading and playing opportunities are in Level 3, as well as 3/4 time signature, sharps, flats, naturals, and scales C and G Major with their key signatures. Level 4 presents syncopation, the dotted quarter note and rest, the repeat sign, D.C al Fine, the damper pedal, ledger notes treble space B and bass space D, the F Major Scale, staccato, D.S. al Fine, and the 8va and 8vb octave signs. Level 5 introduces the playing of the hands in different clefs, including hand-over-hand, as well as the terms legato, accent, sforzando, slur, crescendo, diminuendo, and four basic tempos. Practice with two-note inversions should increase reading/playing skills. Level 6 presents ledger notes bass CDE and treble ABCD, 6/8 time signature, phrasing, sixteenth note and rest, D Major and B Flat Major, grace note, the roll, and eighth note triplet. In every level, familiar classic pieces and original songs of progressive difficulty allow the student to increase abilities. The Warm-Up! exercise develops the student’s skill of playing by touch, rather than constant looking at the piano keyboard for orientation. The Theory Book directly correlates with the Lesson Book and reinforces learned concepts through writing experiences, puzzles, and games designed to increase student enthusiasm and motivation. The Fun Book provides additional practice material and correlates with the Lesson Book. For maximum benefit, all books of the same level should be used together. There is a separate Itty Bitty Student series for students ages 4 and 5 that uses the same Instructional Design methods as the books for older students.
