RESONANCE: The Secret Beauty of Visible Sound (RESONANCE: The Secret Beauty of Visible Sound / L’inaudita bellezza del suono visibile)

What if we could see sound? We would be immersed in amazing shapes drawn by acoustic waves in space. Thanks to Cymatics, we can go beyond the limits of our senses, and visualize the patterns created by a sound frequency on a fluid’s surface. The Resonance photographic project is a tributeto the secret beauty of Nature by showing the fascinating drawings traced on water by symbolic natural sound sources — both terrestrial and astronomic. The first part, “Earth”, is dedicated to the sounds produced on our planet by objects attributable to one of the four elements (Earth, Fire, Air, and Water). The second part, “Universe”, goes beyond terrestrial borders to grasp onto the boundless wonder scattered in space, thanks to the astronomical instruments that allow us to capture and convert the signals coming in from the most distant celestial objects into acoustic waves. From Earth to the edge of the Universe, from a simple drop patiently building a rock, to the shock wave of a galactic collision capable of rippling the space-time fabric: the sound draws in front of the camera’s lens the invisible symphony of reality. AUTHOR Simone Arrigoni (Rome, Italy, 1973) is a Classical Pianist, multiple Freediving World Record holder and a Photographer with more than 150 awards in the most prestigious International Photo Contests. He has been Underwater Photography Festival Ambassador since 2019 and FIOF Italian Photography Ambassador in China 2017-2021.
