The scarab (kheper) beetle was one of the most well-liked amulets in ancient Egypt. Because the insect was a representation of the sun god Re. The Egyptians’ misinterpretation of the life cycle of the scarab led to the development of this relationship. A dung ball containing the eggs of an adult beetle is buried underground. The only part of this process that is readily apparent to a viewer when the immature beetles hatch is the beetle emerging fully developed from a dung ball, which is a seemingly magical event. To come into being is how the Egyptian term for scarab is translated.
