Set Academie Seven String Bass Viol Strings Medium Gauge

This is a set of strings for the seven string bass viol. All strings are made with beef serosa. The set consists of: d-1 – Treble gut (48″, 120cm) a-2 – Treble gut (48″, 120cm) e-3 – Lyon gut (48″, 120cm) C-4 – Pistoy gut (48″, 120cm) G-5 – Gut/silverplate-wound (45.25″, 115cm) D-6 – Gut/silverplate-wound (44.25″, 112cm) A-7 – Gut/silverplate-wound (44.25″, 112cm) Treble gut string: is made with beef serosa and is processed to be a little harder than other kinds of gut. It also has a lower twist of about 15 degrees to increase the strength. Lyon string: is made from gut specially processed in our workshop to be soft and responsive. The Lyon-style of gut string is a high twist, single spin construction that offers a tone that is full and warm with a powerful fundamental and complex, pleasing upper partials. Pistoy string: is made of three strands of gut twisted in one direction, and then the three combined together by twisting in the other direction in rope fashion. The results are a very flexible string with a quick response and a full, round sound. The string is characterized by a noticeable twist and flexible feel. Gut/Silverplate string: a gut core string with a silver-plated copper wire wound onto the gut in tandem with a thin silk layer wound onto the core between the gut and wire. Because of the plating, the wire is left round so that you can feel the texture of the tops of the wire. The tone is quick and bright. Academie gut strings are used by professional and serious amateur musicians around the world. These strings are usually used on historically accurate instruments by those musicians playing early music / historically informed performance practice.
