The Flex Orchestra – Cello Book (Flex Orchestra Series)

The FLEX Orchestra Series is a collection of hymn arrangements for stringed instruments that can flex for your context. The series was born out of a desire to have beginners participate in worship and play along side more experienced players. The melody part is the same for each instrument with some variations in register. Any instrument or any combination of instruments can play the melody part together. On the adjacent page is an ensemble part for that instrument. The ensemble part is unique to that instrument and provides a harmony part. Finally, the piano accompaniment is the “glue” that holds everything together. These arrangements can be played as solos with piano accompaniment or any combination of duet, trio, quartet or quintet with piano accompaniment. The melody part is the easiest part, while the ensemble parts are more difficult as they include shifting and more complex bowing patterns and rhythms. This scoring flexibility allows any beginner on any instrument to play the melody and any more experienced players to play their instruments’ ensemble part.
