This is a carefully re-worked reprint of a much-admired classic. It is not an optical character recognition copy, as some reprints are. If you reading any reviews of bad formatting, it is not in reference to this particular reprint. This one has been meticulously re-typset and formatted. It has 265 pages, due to added material, and the print is larger than other reprints. George Rawlinson, the author, was an eminent Bible scholar of the 19th century who felt the need to bring the kings mentioned in the books of Kings and Chronicles into a clearer light. His means of doing this was to give the scripture for each king; then he comments on them. Annotations have been added for further information and interesting historical tid-bits. In addition, this particular reprint takes into account some of the “stilted” language of that century and re-phrases it in more contemporary terms for a more enjoyable experience for readers. The book retains all of the fine scholarship, but has vast improvements such as illustrations and also an outline of the times of the “Divided Kingdom.” It will greatly enhance one’s knowledge and enjoyment of the Old Testament.
