Cambridge and its University is one of the wonders of the world. It is ancient, beautiful and has been the home to many of the greatest poets, scientists and scholars over the 800 years of its existence. Yet it is very difficult to understand how the Colleges and University work to create this extraordinarily creative teaching and research environment. Professor Alan Macfarlane, for forty years a teacher in the University and at King’s College, gives a personal introduction to Cambridge.
