Victorian Era Children and Their Toys: A Photo Gallery

$18.00

This photo-gallery book provides a visual historical reference to the Victorian era, enhancing studies in history, art, and sociology.

When Queen Victoria came to the throne in 1837, and married Prince Albert in 1840, the Queen and her young family influenced everything from fashion, child rearing, and even the new technology of photography. As photography grew from the small canvas of a tintype or carte de visite to larger cabinet cards, more people were able to take advantage of this medium. This book is a compilation of original photos where children are photographed with popular toys of the times. Post cards and drawings of children and toys included here appear as greeting cards, book illustrations and ephemera. I have also included original photos of toys from the period. Not an academic or scholarly work, this book contains early photos in my JETT collection (named for my children and grandchildren) joined with original images from periodicals of the era. This book is a companion to Children in the Civil War – A Photo Gallery and includes a few of the images from that book. This volume encompasses a greater scope, and it is my hope my collection enhances endeavors to recreate the lives of children through living history.
