After the death of their mother in 1821, Emily and her siblings were raised by their father, a country parson, and their maternal aunt. Her sisters Anne and Charlotte Bronte also grew up to be accomplished authors. Emily is also known for her brilliant poetry, and her only novel was Wuthering Heights, first published under the pseudonym Ellis Bell in 1847.
